Choosing a Dog as a Pet
Dogs make wonderful pets, but it is important to remember that he will be dependent on you to make the right decisions about his health and wellbeing. Before you choose a dog, the first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of dog is right for you, and your family. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, some need lots of space, some need less. Every dog has its own unique personality that needs to fit with your family, your lifestyle and your other personal commitments.
Size
Small, Medium, Large or Giant all breeds of dog fit into one of these categories! Consideration of a dog's size when he is fully grown is extremely important as it will influence things like the amount of space they need to be comfortable, the amount of food they will eat and even how long it will take them to reach their adult size. Remember just because he's small as a puppy, doesn't mean that he'll stay that way forever!
Activity Level
Some dogs needs lots and lots of activity while others can be happy and healthy with much less exercise. Requirements for exercise and play will be determined by the dog's breed, age, size and overall health. Bored or un-stimulated dogs will become agitated and you can expect them to act out their frustration with bad behaviour. Insufficient exercise can also lead to health problems, so remember to consider the amount of time that you can dedicate to exercise and play when you are thinking of getting a dog.
