All About a Boxer

The Boxer dog is a very intelligent, brave and can also be a very active dog. They are very loyal to their family and owners and get along very well with children, although care should be taken. This breed is very responsive to training and so can be taught commands relatively easily. They are cautious towards strangers and make for an excellent watchdog. The Boxer is a wonderful family pet apart from that he is used as Police dog and Guard dog.

Grooming a Boxer Dog

Hair type: Boxers have a short, smooth, close fitting coat that comes in fawn, brindle, tan, mahogany, black and often with white markings.

Daily coat care: The Boxer’s smooth, short-haired coat is easy to groom. Brush with a firm bristle brush and bathe only when necessary for it removes the natural oils from the skin. Some boxers will try to keep themselves clean, often grooming themselves like a cat.

Recommended groom frequency: A Boxer should be fully groomed every 3-4 months, although intermittent washing, nail clips and ear cleans are recommended.

A full dog groom at Petmania Grooming Studios will include - Full wash, dry, nail clip, ear clean & pluck, breed standard hair cut and conditioning spray.

Diet

Depending on the size and age of your Boxer Dog, you will need to feed between 305g and 402g of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals.

Our pet advisors in-store can help you find the most appropriate food for your dog, while you can find out more about the different dog food brands we stock here.

Activity Level

This active dog needs lots of daily exercise like long walk and jog. Boxers are sensitive to temperature so should not be exposed to very high or very low temperature. Some Boxers are known to snore and some can snore very loudly.

Where to get a Boxer Dog

There are lots of places offering dogs or puppies for sale in Ireland, but we would always ask that you consider adopting a dog first. Our animal rescue partners have 100's of rescue dogs and puppies seeking a forever home and would be delighted to introduce you to them.

However, if a rescue dog is not for you, we do recommend that you choose a registered breeder and seek Irish Kennel Club registration papers which will confirm that the dog has been bred to their strict code of ethics.
