Habitat
Because of their large size, the Goliath Bird Eater needs a large tank with a secure lock. A large hide should also be provided along with a a small water dish.
Although specialist lighting is not needed for your Tarantula, you will need to provide a heat mat and retain a regular temperature of between 70-80*F. 2-3 inches of substrate will be needed to line the bottom of the habitat.
Handling
We do not recommend the Goliath Bird Eater spider as a pet.
The Goliath Bird Eater is an aggressive and defensive species of spider that should not be handled under any circumstances. They are quick and nervous. They make a hissing noise if they feel threatened by rubbing the bristles on their legs. It can be heard up to 15 feet away. They will also rear up to fling their abdominal hairs and will try to bite when stressed.
Again we must stress that this type of tarantula should not be seen as a pet and are not available to Petmania customers.
