Adopt an Animal with Deise Animal Sanctuary

Adopt an Animal with Deise Animal Sanctuary

If you have been thinking of getting a dog or cat, then look to adopt an animal. Think Adoption First. Meet Deise Animal Sanctuary, who are partnered with our store in Waterford. Find out below how you can offer a forever home to one of the dogs or cats in their care.

Who are they?

Deise Animal Sanctuary is an Irish Charity established in 2010 in Waterford, founded by Pat Edwards and Rob Grace. They are dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill pounds and owners who can no longer care for them.

For more than 14 years, the Déise Animal Sanctuary has provided a number of valuable services to the people of Waterford, Tipperary, Cork, Kilkenny and beyond.

In a typical day, the Sanctuary, based in Ballymacarbry, cares for over 150 animals of all kinds, sizes, and needs: domestic and wild.

By working with committed volunteers, local veterinary surgeons, and overseas adoption groups, they are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes.

They also serve as a resource to the public by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, microchipping and veterinary care.

With approximately 40 dogs in their care at any one time, they rely heavily on the generosity of the public to fund and continue their work.

What Animals Do They Shelter?

There are usually 40-60 adult dogs in their care waiting for an forever home. They come to Deise under a variety of circumstances. 98% are suitable for rehoming and just need their second chance.

There are animals at the sanctuary that are considered “Residents” and not all are available for re-homing. This could be due to many reasons from illness and through rehab to old age. Some have become sanctuary pets and undertake  outreach work with schools, nursing homes etc. A few others are just residents that haven’t found their forever home for various reasons and are living out their lives in the sanctuary.

By adopting a pet from Deise Sanctuary you undertake to take the best care of that animal. Puppies and kittens should be neutered at the earliest opportunity. If your circumstances change and you can no longer give your pet the home it needs, contact the Sanctuary and they will do their very best to help.
