Scruffs bowls are made from strong, thick and heavy stoneware. The thick bases and walls of the bowls add weight, helping the bowls to stay still when pets are feeding, unlike with plastic or steel bowls. As stoneware is a relatively poor conductor of heat, the thick walls also help to keep food cooler for longer. Scruffs glazes are chip and bite resistant, making them the perfect material and finish for pet bowls. Most shapes also feature finger holds, making it more comfortable for pet parents to serve and pick up bowls.
The Scruffs Flat Faced Pet Bowl is for brachycephalic breeds of dog (dogs with flat faces), such as pugs, French and English bulldogs. Flat faced dogs generally have reduced airways which can lead to problems breathing, especially when eating. With a regular flat-bottomed, bowl, flat faced dogs have to move their noses against hard walls, making it difficult to breathe. If they inhale air while eating, they can suffer from bloat, indigestion, choking, vomiting or excessive wind. Scruffs Flat Faced Bowls raise the feeding surface, bringing it further towards the dogs, and the curved surface inside the bowl means that noses don’t get pushed against a wall, eliminating all of the above problems.

- The raised base brings food or water forward towards the animals faces, helping reduce the urge to suck food up which can cause indigestion and bloat.
- The water bowl is designed specifically for dogs to drink from with comfort. Dogs drink differently than most mammals as their tongues bend backwards so that they scoop water up into their mouths. The high sides of this bowl give the depth needed to make it easier and more comfortable.
