Petmania Beat Guinness World Record with Cake for 450 Dogs

Saturday 29th July 2017

Petmania, the Irish chain of pet stores have marked their 10th Birthday with a successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Biggest Cake for Dogs. The existing record was set in 2011 to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton weighing in at 68.45kgs. Petmania comfortably beat the record with a cake that was 100% edible by dogs, setting a new record of 91.8kg.

Petmania’s birthday cake was presented, and distributed, as the centre piece to a party for dogs at their flagship store in Kilkenny City on Saturday afternoon. The cake was portioned into 450 slices and given to the dogs that came along to the party.

Marketing Manager for Petmania, Emily Miller, said “we had a fantastic day here in Kilkenny and it was a great opportunity for us to thank our customers for their support over the past 10 years and what better way to mark a landmark birthday like this one than attempting to break a Guinness World Record?”.

Petmania currently employs 120 staff across 12 branches nationwide. The chain grew from a pet section in a family run garden centre and is now recognised as a leading expect in Pet Care in Ireland. Speaking at their birthday party in Kilkenny, Emily Miller said “the last ten years have gone so fast, but we have had so much fun getting here and are looking forward to seeing what the next 10 years will bring”.

Since they first opened their doors in 2007, Petmania had groomed over 20,000 dogs; raised over €200,000 for local charities and they can now add beating a Guinness World Record to their list of accomplishments.

The cake itself was baked on Friday 28th July by Premium Canine, under the careful watch of the NSAI Legal Metrology department who recorded the official weight of the final cake at 91.8kg.

The cake which was 100% edible by dogs was made from (a lot of!) eggs, carrots, oats, honey, peanut butter and sunflower oil. The top was decorated with edible rice paper and every part of the cake apart from the ribbon and balloons were completely edible. Petmania will now submit their evidence of their record attempt to Guinness World Records for the official seal of approval.
