What Does a Professional Dog Groomer Do?

What Does a Professional Dog Groomer Do?

Grooming is an essential part in the well-being and healthiness of a dog. It can help improve their quality of life and keep them happy, healthy and comfortable. How much grooming a dog needs will depend on breed, age, and health.

Professional dog groomers have an important role to play in the health, hygiene and appearance of a dog. Grooming helps remove dead hair, reduce the risk of eye, ear, skin, teeth and nail infections, prevents matting, and keeps your dog healthy and comfortable.

In this blog post, I’ll walk through what the role of a professional dog groomer includes, the services we provide, the different tools and shampoos used and my top recommendations of treatments from the Petmania Grooming Studio menu.

What a Professional Dog Groomer Does

There are a range of services our Grooming Studios provide. Typically a dog groomer will provide a wash, dry, breed standard hair cut (or the owners preferred style) nail clip, ear clean, ear plucking and conditioning cologne spray.

Other packages also include different shampoos, conditioners, mud baths, flea treatments, worming tablets, expression of anal glands, blueberry facial, paw scrub, bows and we also can offer pet safe washable hair die and nail polish, ultrasonic teeth cleaning.

Professional Dog Grooming Tools

Professional groomers have all the expert tools at their disposal to ensure your dog is looking his best. This includes different kinds of battery-powered clippers, curved scissors as well as an adjustable grooming table.

A slicker brush is a must-have tool for any groomer. It will gently remove mats, tangles and loose hair, and with regular use, help reduce shedding, ensuring your dog’s cot is kept fresh and healthy.

We use a variety of different types of combs, such as medium/coarse comb for removing mats, tangles and loose hair. The smooth, rounded teeth prevent damage to the coat.

The SAFARI Shedding Comb for Long Hair Breeds helps reduce shedding and remove loose hair from all coat types.

A straight thinning scissors is useful for when thinning out a cot that is too heavy.

Do You Do Any General Health-Checkups?

As dog groomers, we are always carrying out a health check throughout the groom. The first thing we do before we take your dog from you is check your dog’s coat and skin to see if we can fulfil your desired style and groom.

As well as this, we are also checking if they are walking properly i.e. with no signs of lameness. As we bathe them, we are checking the skin, around the eyes, mouth, teeth, tail, and legs. If anything is ever found during our checks, we immediately let the owner know and recommend the best course of action to take.

What Treatments are Available on the Petmania Grooming Menu?

My favourite has to be the signature beauty package; the dogs get such a pamper from the conditioner and blueberry facial, and the paw scrub is great for cleaning the paws in-between the paw pads and the nails. It is certainly one of our most popular packages.

Our second most popular is our de-shedding mud bath for the shedding breeds such as Labradors, retrievers, collies, boxers, and beagles. We also provide other mud therapy baths, such as our skin soothing for dogs that suffer from sensitive skin or hot spots, and our muscle and joint therapy mud bath for older dogs or athletic dogs that are doing a lot of movement.
