1.Connemara National Park
Connemara National Park is believed to be one of the most beautiful areas in Ireland to hike with your dog. With nearly 3,000 hectares of scenic mountains, glorious grasslands, and enchanting forests, there are endless things to see, do and explore with your dog. With plenty of trails and lots of history to discover, it makes for the perfect place to scratch an adventure itch with your pooch.
2. Salthill Promenade
Salthill promenade is not only a great place to get out and about with your four legged friend but also provides stunning views over Galway Bay and the Burren across the distance. Stretching all the way from the Claddagh Quay to the famous Blackrock diving tower, Salthill Promenade is a very popular spot for a stroll or a refreshing run along the seafront. A hive of activity, it’s no doubt a great place to stretch your legs with your dog at any time of the day.
3. Barna Woods
Delve into the wilderness and explore Barna Woods and Lough Rusheen, located just west of the city. An ideal place for a leisurely stroll, the city’s outskirts meet the city’s best swaths of wild terrain. There is plenty of woodland, streams, and beaches all spread out over a few square kilometres and great for adventuring with your dog.
4. Moycullen Heritage Trails: Killagoola Loop
This heritage trail provides for a peaceful and relaxing day out with your dog. It follows a path through the main village and continues along quiet country roads while offering incredible views of the village and Lough Corrib on a clear day. As you and your pooch venture along these trails, you will pass over bridges and canals, walk through woodland and bogland with views of the beautiful lakes and rivers. 5. Merlin Park Woods
An urban woodland located on the eastern edge of Galway city, Merlin Woods is an anchorage for wildlife and leisurely walks. The park features a variety of different types of trees, flowers, wildlife, perfect for exploring with your dog. Merlin Castle ruins and a network of paths running through the woods, making it ideal for both history buffs and dog walkers alike. Currently the largest area of woodland around Galway City, it’s a haven to escape the hustle and enjoy a peaceful stroll with your dog in tow.

Petmania’s Operation TransPAWmation began in 2017 to highlight the rise in overweight dogs in Ireland. Since then we have extended the campaign to a whole-health campaign for dogs and cats, helping 1000’s of pet owners get to grips with their pet’s overall health and wellbeing.
Now in its 7th Year, Operation TransPAWmation is designed to help dog and cat owners identify and make small changes that can help improve their pet’s overall health and wellbeing.
