Adopt a Dog with PAWS Animal Rescue
If you have been thinking of getting a dog, then look to adopt one. Think Adoption First. Meet PAWS Animal Rescue, who is partnering with our new Petmania store opening soon in Clonmel. Find out below how you can offer a forever home to one of the dogs in their care.
Who are they?
PAWS was founded in February 1997 by Deirdre Hetherington in Sallins, Co Kildare. The original concept was to rehome unwanted pets from their current homes and take in dogs from Kildare Dog pound to save them from being euthanised. At the time, there were 35,000 dogs being euthanised in Irish Dog Pounds every year.
By 2000, PAWS was taking every dog available from South Dublin Dog Pound in Saggart. And Greyhounds from Ashton Pound in North Dublin. As a result lots of dogs were being saved from the pound which also resulted in a drop in the euthanasia rates.
By working with committed employees, volunteers, local Veterinary surgeons and overseas adoption groups PAWS are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year. And provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes.
Moreover they serve as a resource to the public because by they provide education and information on responsible pet ownership. Including the importance of spay/neuter, microchipping and Veterinary care.
With approximately 60 dogs in their care at any one time they rely heavily on the generosity of the public to fund and continue their work.
They are a voluntary organisation, funded by donations only. If you wish to make a contribution you can do so here.
