Adopt an Animal with Kilkenny SPCA
If you have been thinking of getting a dog or cat, then look to adopt an animal. Think Adoption First. Meet Kilkenny SPCA, who are partnered with our store in Kilkenny. Find out below how you can offer a forever home to one of the dogs or cats in their care.
Who are they?
Founded in 1882 by the Marchioness of Ormonde, the charity was set up to promote the welfare of all animals, both domestic and wild. The first meeting took place in Kilkenny Castle on the 25th of April 1882 and became a registered charity in 1937. Today they are one of 17 affiliated member societies of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA).
Their aim is to improve the welfare of all animals, domestic and wild. KKSPCA’s work includes:
- Inspections of reported cases of cruelty and advising the Gardai accordingly
- Providing shelter for animals in distress, including wild animals and birds
- Attending accidents involving animals and providing relief as necessary.
- Helping to re-home animals
- Helping owners find lost animals
- Providing a subsidised neutering scheme through vouchers
- Promoting education on animal welfare
They are a voluntary organisation, funded by donations only. If you wish to make a contribution you can do so here.

Rehoming
Kilkenny SPCA are always looking for good homes for animals, including dogs, cats and horses. If you decide to adopt an animal, please know that there is a small rehoming fee, and that a home check may be carried out. If you have an animal that you would like Kilkenny SPCA to help you rehome, please contact them and send a photograph.
