Galway Cat Rescue Nominated for The Mayor’s Awards

Galway Cat Rescue has been nominated with an award which celebrates volunteerism in Galway City. The nomination recognises the outstanding commitment to community and voluntary activity made by Olivia O’Reilly and her small team and the impact they have made on the quality of community life in Galway City.

Speaking about the nomination, Olivia from Galway Cat Rescue said,

“I was very humbled to receive a letter from the mayor acknowledging the voluntary rescue work of Galway Cat Rescue. This is a lovely positive appreciation of a decade of voluntary TNR (Trap, Neuter and Release) and rehoming work carried out by myself and a small but hugely dedicated team of committed animal welfare volunteers. I hope it will assist people’s awareness of animals in need in their communities and the true value of the charity’s work in this area.”

Charity reliant on goodwill and committed partnerships

Galway Cat Rescue has seen a huge increase in activities since the lifting of “lockdown” and are under massive time and financial pressure to meet the demand. The charity is rescuing round the clock and are full to capacity with foster resources stretched to the limit.

The charity is committed to supporting the ‘foster with a view to adopt’ concept to allow as many rescue cats as possible reach a positive conclusion. This is only possible with the support of donations and charity partnerships such as that with Petmania Galway.

Petmania Galway launched a food appeal to help Galway Cat Rescue in April. With the restrictions of lockdown rescue centres face financial hardship as a result of the Pandemic. Now post-lockdown, costs continue to mount up, many of the shelters’ flag days, fundraisers and adoption days have been cancelled placing additional hardship on the rescue centre. Petmania customers continue to support local animal rescue centres through their donations of food, supplies and via a Go Fund Me page.

Olivia explains,

“Petmania shoppers are continuing to be very supportive with donations of food/litter/kitten milk/kitten toys and more to our rescue centre. We are so grateful for this invaluable assistance and to the staff and manager of Petmania Galway for their on-going support.”

Petmania encourages its customers to add something extra into their shopping cart to help support the Galway Cat Rescue. For more see: www.petmania.ie | gofundme.com/f/Petmania-Animal-Rescue-Food-Appeal | www.galwaycatrescue.ie
