All about the Norfolk Terrier
This Norfolk Terrier breed is loveable and very affectionate that makes it very good with children and friendly with strangers. It is a good companion breed that is easy to train and very loyal.
It gets along well with other dogs but has an instinct to hunt animals that are smaller than themselves, so caution is advised around smaller pets.
Their friendly nature mean that the Norfolk Terrier does not make for a good watchdog, but will offer great companionship.
Grooming a Norfolk Terrier
Hair type: The Norfolk Terrier breed has a double coat: a harsh, wiry topcoat and a soft, warm undercoat. It comes in all shades of red, wheaten, black and tan, or grizzle.
Daily coat care: The shaggy, medium-length, waterproof coat is relatively easy to care for, but daily combing and brushing with a slicker brush and metal comb is important. Little clipping is required. Take extra care when the dog is shedding. Bathe and dry shampoo only when necessary. This breed is a light shedder.
Recommended groom frequency: Norfolk Terriers need to get professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks.

Diet
Depending on the size and age of your Norfolk Terrier, you will need to feed between 103g and 135g of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals. The Norfolk Terrier is prone to gaining weight, so a balance diet with treats only occasionally is recommended to help avoid this.

Activity Level
This is an active breed which needs lot of daily exercise. Daily long walks are essential to keep the dog healthy both physically and mentally. The walks should be supplemented with a romp in an open area every now and then. This breed loves the game of catch and retrieve. However, it should not be let off the leash in an unsecured area because of its innate hunting instincts.
Where to get a Norfolk Terrier
There are lots of places offering dogs or puppies for sale in Ireland, but we would always ask that you consider adopting a dog first. Our animal rescue partners have 100’s of rescue dogs and puppies seeking a forever home and would be delighted to introduce you to them.
However, if a rescue dog is not for you, we do recommend that you choose a registered breeder and seek Irish Kennel Club registration papers which will confirm that the dog has been bred to their strict code of ethics.
