All about the Bull Terrier
The Bull Terrier likes to be doing something and fit in well with active families where they receive a great deal of companionship and supervision.
Courageous, scrappy, fun-loving, active and fearless, they are a loyal, polite, and obedient dog which will become very attached to their owners.
They thrive on firm, consistent leadership and affection and makes a fine family pet for the right type of owner, but they are not recommended for most households.
They do not do well in situations where they are left alone for long parts of the day and if they do not get enough physical and mental exercise they may be too energetic for small children.
They might have a preventive effect and it might defend its owner in a truly critical situation, but it isn’t bred to be a guard dog.
The Bull Terrier is on the list of controlled breeds under The Control of Dogs Regulations 1998.
Grooming a Bull Terrier
Hair type: The coat of the Bull Terrier is dense, short, flat and harsh to the touch. The White Bull Terrier will have coloured markings on the head, but nowhere else on the body. The coloured Bull Terriers may be black, brindle, black-brindle, red, fawn and tricolour with white markings.
Daily coat care: The Bull Terrier is easy to groom. An occasional combing and brushing will do. This breed is an average shedder, shedding twice a year. You can remove loose hair by a daily rubdown with a special rubber glove.
Recommended groom frequency: Bull Terriers don’t require extensive professional grooming. They have an easy to care for, low maintenance coat and grooming frequency is at the discretion of a responsible owner.

Diet
Depending on the size and age of your Bull Terrier, you will need to feed between 274g and 361g of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals.

Activity Level
This breed needs vigorous daily exercise, which includes a daily, long walk. The Bull Terrier has a tendency to become overweight and lazy if it is not properly exercised. Bull Terriers will do okay in an apartment if they are sufficiently exercised. They are fairly active indoors and a small yard will do. They prefer warm climates.
Where to get a Bull Terrier
There are lots of places offering dogs or puppies for sale in Ireland, but we would always ask that you consider adopting a dog first. Our animal rescue partners have 100’s of rescue dogs and puppies seeking a forever home and would be delighted to introduce you to them.
However, if a rescue dog is not for you, we do recommend that you choose a registered breeder and seek Irish Kennel Club registration papers which will confirm that the dog has been bred to their strict code of ethics.
