Dublin Spaniel Crowned Petmania Puppy of the Year

On a sunny afternoon in Navan last Saturday, 12 hopeful puppies and their owners gathered from around the country for the Petmania Puppy of the Year Grand Final. Since April these puppies have been campaigning hard for public votes and were selected by the public from 670 entries to represent their local Petmania Stores in the Grand Final.

Strutting their stuff in Navan on Saturday, the 12 Finalists were put through their paces, displaying an array of talents from rolling over to hi-fives, and the puppies were judged in four categories: Special Talents; Personality; Coat & Appearance; Obedience.

After tough deliberations, the panel of Judges – Emily Miller from Petmania, Niall Hennessy from Hills Pet Nutrition and Eleanor Fitzgerald from iRadio – announced the winner, along with second and third place.

  1. First Place went to Gizmo, a four month old Tibetan Spaniel from Santry who travelled to Navan on the day with his humans Chris and Karen Judge.
  2. Second Place was a home win with Navan’s representative at the final, Goose, a snow white Akita with his human Wayne Brennan
  3. Third Place went to Zoma, a Golden Retriever Pup who had travelled all the way from Galway to take part in the final on Saturday. Her human is Amy Wall.

All entrants on the day took home prizes with a fabulous new dog bed from Petmania and food from Hills Pet Nutrition. Gizmo walked away with what can only be described as a ‘haul’, taking home a year’s worth of Total Wellbeing Packages from Petmania Grooming Studios, 12 Months worth of food from Hills Pet Nutrition, a Motorola Scout, a new dog bed and dog treats! Not only that, but Gizmo will now have the honour of featuring in some of Petmania’s digital and print advertising over the coming 12 months!

Commenting on the day, Marketing Manager from Petmania, Emily Miller said “it’s wonderful to see all of our finalists make the trip to Navan today. We know that some of them have had very long journeys from around the country and it’s great that they could all make the trip. We’ve had a great day, with lots of fun and to have the opportunity to meet the finalists in person is a real honour. Choosing our overall winner was extremely difficult, but we are looking forward to seeing Gizmo appear in some of our advertising over the next 12 months”.
