GO BIO-DEGRADABLE THIS INTERNATIONAL POOPER SCOOPER WEEK

International Pooper Scooper Week runs from the 1st – 7th of April. Petmania are encouraging pet parents to clean up after their dogs in public spaces while being environmentally conscious by using their bio-degradable poop bags.

Emily Miller, Marketing Manager with Petmania says, “Our 12 Petmania stores nationwide stock biodegradable poop bags. Biodegradable plastics take three to six months to decompose fully which is much quicker than synthetic plastic which could take several hundred years.”

The specialist pet retailer are urging dog owners to be aware of the dangers of dog waste this International Pooper Scooper Week. Along with dog waste being foul smelling, there are serious health implications associated with dog waste. It contains harmful bacteria such as E-coli and parasites like roundworm and can also cause serious kidney disorders, diarrhoea and intestinal illnesses.

It can be easily picked up on the wheels of buggies and bikes and it is an issue for wheelchair users and people who are visually impaired. If dog waste is not disposed of appropriately it can be of serious danger to humans especially children. Children can easily come into contact with dog waste through contaminated soil in play areas or parks.

Petmania advise dog owners to dispose of bagged dog waste in any public bin. If there is no public bin nearby, it should be brought home and disposed of in a suitable sanitary manner using biodegradable poop bags.

Petmania is a specialist pet retailer with 12 stores nationwide. Along with being a retailer, Petmania offer dog grooming services, flea, tick and worming treatments and pet nutrition advice. Petmania experts are happy to advise on any pet related issues.
