All about the Labradoodle
When trained properly, the Labradoodle is a very intelligent dog that can make an ideal family pet.
They are extremely friendly and will treat everyone like their best friend. They are also a great family dog and become extremely devoted to their family. This breed spends most of its life in excellent form and will often jump around and play in exuberant fashion to show their happiness.
However, like every other dog, to ensure that you get the most out of your Labradoodle, it should be socialised at a young age to ensure that it is familiar with sounds and surroundings.
Grooming a Labradoodle
Hair type: Labradoodle’s characteristics can be very unpredictable. Their coat can be anything from wiry to soft and may be straight, wavy or curly. Many labradoodles do shed although the coat usually sheds less and has less odour than that of a Labrador retriever.
Daily coat care: Devote little time to grooming a fleece coated labradoodle until their adult coat replaces their puppy coat which occurs between 8 and 14 months old. Then during the changeover thoroughly brush the coat at least once a week with a natural bristle brush and mat comb. Brush your labradoodle once a month to keep shedding to a minimum and prevent matting. Use a natural bristle brush with wool coats.
Recommended groom frequency: A Labradoodle should be professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks.

Diet
Depending on the age, size and activity level of your Labradoodle, you can expect to feed between Recommended daily amount: 280g and 500g of high-quality dry food a day, divided into two meals.

Activity Level
Labradoodles can adapt to just about any setting, but they’re not recommended for apartments. They require about 30 to 60 minutes of good exercise per day and would do better with a fenced yard in which to get rid of some of their built up energy. Some Labradoodles, especially in the first generation, can require even more exercise. The Labradoodle makes an excellent jogging companion but also needs some time off-leash to burn off steam. In addition, They need to be intellectually stimulated. If they become bored they can become a very destructive.
Where to get a Labradoodle
There are lots of places offering dogs or puppies for sale in Ireland, but we would always ask that you consider adopting a dog first. Our animal rescue partners have 100’s of rescue dogs and puppies seeking a forever home and would be delighted to introduce you to them.
However, if a rescue dog is not for you, we do recommend that you choose a registered breeder and seek Irish Kennel Club registration papers which will confirm that the dog has been bred to their strict code of ethics.
